The Denver Nuggets since the Carmelo trade are 10-4. The Knicks are 7-9.
Based off that you can see who got the better end of the trade right now. The Knicks have gone under 500 since the trade, and many New Yorker’s are already calling it a bust. Seriously? Carmelo is not a bust yet, he was thrown into a new system, with new teammates (with the exception of Chauncey) and expected to turn an average team into a championship team overnight. Let us remember a former Yankees pitcher, he started 26 games, and pitched 145 innings in three years. He ended up winning 9 of those games and completed his tenure on the Yanks with a 5.00ERA. Yes, we’re talking about Carl “American Idle” Pavano here. That’s a bust if I ever saw one.
Anything less than winning it all in NY is seen as a failure. Actually, I guess this isn’t true considering the Mets and Islanders have been sub-par for quite some time now. In any case, I thought we knew that the Knicks weren’t going to be a force this year? All of the sudden they go under 500 and the world is ending, and people are booing again in MSG. D’Antoni’s job may be on the line as well. Why? Because they don’t play defense? Well that’s funny, it is a known fact that D’Antoni likes high-octane offense and minimal defense. As long as I can remember his teams would almost always score 100+ points a game. Carmelo was never a defensive player, ever. Do you expect this to all change overnight? I don’t think any mediocre team can go from being highly offensive, trade most of their team for basically one all star, expect that all star and whole team to produce on both ends of the court (which Anthony has never really done anyway) and win a championship, all within a couple of months. It just won’t happen that fast. You can hope and dream, but this is not the Knicks year. Sure, they can make the playoffs and upset a few teams, but there is just no way they can hang with the powerhouses of the east.
What is your opinion on the ‘Melo trade? Let me know what you think!
