I’m sure you’ve heard it already, but Joba Chamberlain’s season is over. They are saying he has a torn ligament in his arm, and it will most likely require surgery. Let us remember that Tommy John surgery doesn’t heal in 2-4 months. Joba won’t be back for at least a year. My question’s about this, and the rest of the Yankees situations are:
1. How come Joba hasn’t felt any discomfort that is normal for a ligament tear?
Girardi even says they have no idea when it happened. Joba says if he was asked to pitch yesterday, he would’ve kindly obliged without a second thought. Joba’s biggest fan – his father Harlan – thinks Joba will be the prodigy he was in 2007 after surgery.
2. Were the ‘Joba Rules’ all for naught?
Personally, I think so. I think it may have ruined his career, to be completely honest. It surely makes the Yankee’s look a little silly.
3. What happened to the bullpen?!
The Yankees pre-season ‘strength’ was touted as the bullpen. “Best in the league.” Hey, I even said it. We know that this is obviously not the case anymore considering most of their bullpen are names you probably have not heard before. How could Cashman let it get this way?
4. Do the Yankees absolutely need some bullpen help?
Marte is probably done for the year, Feliciano is another waste of money (special thanks to the NYM for that one), Joba is done, and Soriano hasn’t thrown for weeks and doesn’t look any closer to the point of throwing. Frankie Rodriquez is on the market and his name has floated around in some rumors for the Yanks, but do you really think the Yanks will bring him across town? K-Rod wants to be a closer, not a setup man for long.
5. With their depleted bullpen will the Yankees even make it to the playoffs?
Mariano can’t pitch three innings a game, that’s for sure. Something needs to happen for them to make a push.
6. The long ball has been the Yankees saving grace so far all season, batting an average of 1.5 HR a game.(90HR [which leads the league] in 60 games played). Will this type of baseball continue for the Bombers?
I sure freakin’ hope so, otherwise it’s going to be a rough summer.
What do you think about Joba and everything else going on with the Bombers?
